Background
During the late 1980s the MOD was required to reduce manning whilst maintaining its programmes. Against this background, in 1988 Systems Engineering & Assessment Limited was founded to provide high quality technical and procurement support to the MOD.
From conception, the directors of SEA planned for growth and the company has expanded and diversified year on year. SEA's consistent growth and prominence in diverse markets is indicative of the company's success in applying its professional knowledge and skills and applicable technologies to meet its customers' needs.
SEA's strategy is to take new technologies to its existing customers whilst taking existing technologies to new markets. The company's organisational structure provides integrated business management teams to address specific product-market sectors.
Throughout, SEA has continued to build its reputation for being at the forefront of research programmes with the ability to pull through new science and technology into new systems and products.
Office Accommodation
To meet the demand for additional office space the decision was made in 1989 to buy Beckington Castle. The then leaking ruin was named by one national newspaper at the time as the "Heap of the Week". By 1996, the Castle had been elegantly restored and became the headquarters of SEA. In 1997, the purpose built New Technology Centre was opened there.
Meantime, in 1996, SEA further expanded into open a modern satellite office in North Bristol, close to the MOD's DE&S centre at Abbey Wood. In 2002, an adjacent office building was leased to accommodate growth plans.
